How to seal a gift box with adhesive tape. Here’s the best method

How can you seal a gift box with adhesive tape? There are two schools of thought on this.

On the one hand, there is a minority group of people who know how to make gift packages in a professional fashion in just a few minutes, without any wrinkles, with perfect angles and super resistant seals; on the other hand, there is the great majority of people who would not even know where to start to pack a gift package.

These are people wo when buying a gift, always take advantage, without exception, of the wrapping service offered by many shops, and who are amazed by the ability with which the staff can create gift packages relying solely on their dexterity.

But it is not at all impossible: it is a matter of technique and a little training. Today, we will begin from the theory, to have a look at how to pack and seal a gift box with adhesive tape, step by step; on future occasions (birthdays, special occasions, Christmas, and so on) these simple rules will be put into practice, and in a short time you can become an expert in gift packaging!

Let’s start from the basics: what are the accessories and tools needed to seal a gift box?

Make a perfect gift box: what you will need

There are three essential tools to create a gift box: wrapping paper, packaging tape, and scissors. There are, of course, a lot of different types of wrapping paper, designed for children’s birthdays, for elegant situations, for the Christmas holidays, for anniversaries, and so on.

In recent years it is very fashionable, however, to use classic brown wrapping paper, which gives gift packages a sober and simple basis to be built upon with other materials.

Yes, because paper, tape and scissors are just the basics. You can work with many other tools as well.

For example, a long ruler which can help you with the folding and measuring prior to cutting. Not to mention the various kinds of colourful ribbons and strings, used to decorate with taste and differently every time, as well as the actual adhesive, which can be more or less playful, to be applied at the front or top of the package.

In short, you start from paper, tape, and scissors, and then keep working with your imagination!

Adhesive tape or double-sided tape?

The classic tool to close a gift box is adhesive tape. Usually, narrow and transparent tape, with a practical dispenser, to be able to tear small pieces using only one hand.

Using strong double-sided adhesive tape without a dispenser is slightly more cumbersome, because each time you will have to pick up the roll of tape, identify where the end is, cut the piece off with your scissors, and then return to the package, which is especially annoying when you have to hold a flap of wrapping paper.

In any case, it should be noted that, to create even more elegant packages, you can use industrial double-sided tape instead of classic adhesive tape. This way, in fact, you can glue the various edges of wrapping paper at the bottom, therefore making them invisible, leaving no trace of your work in view. This is an idea to consider!

How to close a gift box with adhesive tape: a step-by-step guide

Let’s have a look at how to create a gift box with paper and double-sided tape. The first fundamental step is to measure the amount of paper needed, placing the object to be wrapped on the paper and taking measurements, calculating all sides of the box with a few inches to spare.

After cutting the paper along the marked line, you can attach the first side of gift wrap paper onto the object. If you need to wrap a square box, for example, you can lay out the paper as a tablecloth, place the box face down on it, and attach a side of the wrapping paper in the middle of the box’s top, then completely wrap around it and fasten it again with adhesive tape or industrial double-sided adhesive.

The trick, to get a perfect gift box, is to stretch the paper well, and iron it out at the corners, to have a smooth and precise result.

Now comes the difficult part: it’s time to seal the sides of the package. It is not as hard as you might think.

You will just need to push the sides of the paper inward, creating a flap at a 45 degrees angle, bending, and sharpening the sides, then join them and gluing them with tape: first, make the upper flap adhere to the box, then the lower one, and then repeat the process on the other side.

At this point, after closing all sides with adhesive tape, you can cover it in bows, ribbons, and any decoration you can think of.
